Hence, the study of films, computer games, photographs, graphics and other carriers of cultural information is a valid task and a challenge for the humanities. The inapplicability of the existing qualitative methods of textual interpretation and media analysis to visual corpus metadata necessitates search for new analytical tools in the field.

A workgroup has been created for the project entitled “Tools for analysis and visualisation of digital images”. The goals of the Group are the following:

1. to work out tools for visualization of broadly defined digital data (including big picture collections and corpora) and for the dynamic analysis of moving images (films, games, animations);
2. to develop methodology for the study of images (including new media) and for evaluating the effectiveness of teaching based on multimedia materials;
3. to organize conferences and workshops on digital tools for visualizing images;
4. to devise and start a multimedia periodical for presenting results in the study of digital images. The lack of this type of periodical in Poland forces the authors of visual presentations shown at conferences to publish them in conventional book and article forms. Therefore digital humanists urgently need to create an interface standard for the publication of their scholarship.

PARTICIPANTS

Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin (UMCS),

Jagiellonian University in Kraków (UJ),

Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań (UAM),

Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (UMK),

University of Silesia in Katowice (UŚ),

Pedagogical University of Cracow (UP),

Siedlce University of Natural Sciences and Humanities (UPH),

The Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences (IS PAS),

The Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw (ASP),

The “Grodzka Gate ‐ NN Theatre” Centre in Lublin,

The University Centre for Distance Learning in Lublin (UCZNiKO)

TEAM

Andrzej Radomski – UMCS (project coordinator)
Radosław Bomba – UMCS
Piotr Witek – UMCS
Ewa Solska – UMCS,
Małgorzata Latoch-Zielińska – UMCS,
Aneta Grodecka – UAM,
Mariusz Dąbrowski – ASP,
Barbara Myrdzik – UMCS,
Iwona Morawska – UMCS,
Michał Ostrowicki – UJ,
Dorota Skotarczak – UAM,
Wiesława Osińska – UMK,
Piotr Zawojski – UŚ,
Małgorzata Wieczorek-Tomaszewska – UP,
Anna Ślósarz – UP,
Ewa Wróblewska-Trochimuk – IS PAS,
Joanna Roszak – IS PAS
Renata Bryzek – UPH
Zbigniew Osiński – UMCS
Kamil Stępień – UMCS
Łukasz Kowalski – The “Grodzka Gate ‐ NN Theatre” Centre,
Rafał Moczadło – UCZNiKO
Karolina Podgórska – UCZNiKO

Project duration: 10 years (2016-2026)

CONTACT

Andrzej Radomski,
Department of Cultural Studies, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin, Poland
e-mail: andrzejradomski64@gmail.com

Screen images have dominated most social practices in today’s world.
