The infrastructure will be adjusted to the multilingual nature of our studies (e.g. Polish, English, German, Italian, Swedish, Russian, Bulgarian, Lithuanian), including visual languages (for hearing impaired) and haptic languages (for visually impaired).

The group consists of the following modules:

1. Digital Multilingual Text Processing (The DiMuLiTeP Group)

The module is designed to create an infrastructure for corpus studies on multilingual texts, including parallel and comparable corpora, and its applications in translation studies, language acquisition and discourse analysis. The module will develop practical corpus-based tools which assist translation and foreign language learning.

2. Multimodal and Mediatized Communication: Digital Culturogical Analysis (MuCoDiCA)

The module is designed to develop digital tools for multimodal and multimedial analysis (in multi-and intercultural communication and multilingualism), triangulation methods for data analysis and techniques of multimodal annotation (evaluation of annotation systems with implementation solutions, methods for verification and description of data and research results).

3. Digital Language Processing Lab (DiLaP Lab)

This module focuses on three areas: the use of digital tools in the investigation of language processing and language acquisition including behavioral research, studies of the role of information and communication technologies in language acquisition, learning, and teaching general and specialized languages; research into the reception of audiovisual translation by target audiences and creating different types of audiovisual translation by translators.

4. Digital Tools for Knowledge Management (The DigiT-Know Group)

The Module is designed to create, develop and apply practical tools for the modular modeling of language semantic structures (including those of specialized languages), knowledge and content management, and for digitalizing and expanding databases and terminology banks. Furthermore, the Module will also create and optimize the tools for machine analysis of texts, corpora and lexical and terminological systems, as well as for modeling of semantic networks and examining of text modularity. Additionally, one of the tasks will include creating a contextual database of the Polish and Polish-language publications on the research into specialized languages.

PARTICIPANTS

Faculty of Applied Linguistics, University of Warsaw (group leader)

Adam Mickiewicz University of Poznań

Institute of Slavonic Studies, PAN

Institute of English Studies, University of Łódź

Department of English, University of Opole

Faculty of Polish Studies, University of Warsaw

Mittuniversitet Hornesund, Sweden

University of California Berkeley, USA

UNINT, Italy

University of Amsterdam, the Netherlands

Universität Hamburg, Germany

Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien, Austria

TEAM

Head: prof.UW dr hab.
